First Public Artwork at Columbia Gardens Wine & Artisan Village
Kennewick, WA – The Latino Heritage Mural is a culmination of more than two year’s work by the Port of Kennewick and Latino community members who had approached the Port looking for places to tell their story through quality public art. Professional muralist Andrew Reid was commissioned in 2016 to paint a public art mural for the Columbia Gardens Urban Wine & Artisan Village in east Kennewick.
Completion of the Latino Heritage Mural Project will be celebrated at a May 23 celebration open to the public at 421 East Columbia Drive. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. with social time before formal festivities and speeches start at 2:30 p.m.

Why: A chance to meet the artist; visit with members of the Latino Heritage Mural Committee and others from the region who shared stories, activities, cultural information and imagery with the artist to influence the final design; a chance to recognize project donors, welcome new artwork to the region, and honor the Latino Community’s contributions to the fabric of the Tri-Cities region.
According to the artist, his intent was to represent the people who have contributed to the land with dignity and honesty by exploring themes of agriculture and wine labor, and the Latino history in the Tri-Cities region. And to choose imagery which represents the values of family, a strong work ethic and cultural pride. The colors he chose are vibrant and realistic; and the murals themselves are both figurative and realistic with iconic emblems, typography and symbols embedded throughout.
The mural is 8-feet-tall and spans 672-square-feet in two sections, one 48-feet and the other 36-feet in length. The mural will be installed on two of the Port’s Columbia Gardens Wine & Artisan Village buildings at 421 East Columbia Drive. The Port considers artwork an essential element in their efforts to revitalize Kennewick’s Waterfront District.
The Latino Heritage Mural Project is funded by Port of Kennewick with support from Columbia Center Rotary, Kennewick Arts Commission, and mural committee members.
Davin Diaz chairs the all-volunteer Latino Heritage Mural Committee that worked with the Port to extend a call-to-artists, and then review, select and recommend their preferred artist to the Port of Kennewick Commissioners. The mural committee worked extensively to determine what response, sense, or feeling they want viewers of the artwork to experience; and provided ongoing input to the artist and Port throughout the process, as well as planning for the celebration festivities.

Kennewick, WA— El Proyecto Mural de Patrimonio Latino es la culminación de más de dos años de trabajo del Puerto de Kennewick y miembros de la comunidad latina quienes se acercaron al puerto en búsqueda de oportunidades para contar su historia a través del arte público. En el 2016, Reid se le comisiono el pintar un mural público para Columbia Gardens Urban Wine & Artisan Village en la parte este de Kennewick.
La finalización del Mural de Patrimonio Latino hará una celebración abierta al publico el 23 de mayo en 421 East Columbia Drive. El evento comienza a las 2 p.m. con tiempo social antes de las festividades formales. Los discursos comienzan a las 2:30.

Los colores que eligió son vibrantes y realistas; y los propios murales son figurativos y realistas, con emblemas icónicos, tipografías y símbolos incrustados
El mural mide 8 pies de altura y abarca 672 pies cuadrados en dos secciones, una de 48 pies y la otra de 36 pies de largo. El mural se instalará en dos de los edificios del puerto en el Columbia Gardens Wine & Artisan Village en 421 East Columbia Drive. El puerto considera que las obras de arte son un elemento esencial en sus esfuerzos para revitalizar el distrito costero de Kennewick.
El Proyecto Mural de Patrimonio Latino es financiado por el Puerto de Kennewick con el apoyo de Columbia Center Rotary, Kennewick Arts Commission y miembros del comité mural.
