Mission & Goals

The Port of Kennewick’s mission is to provide and support sound economic growth opportunities, which foster new business, industry and jobs, improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for the Port district citizens. To carry out that mission the Port may:

  • Acquire, sell, lease, and develop real estate.
  • Provide multi-modal transportation infrastructures such as roads, rail, airport, and navigation improvements.
  • Foster the development of tourism and public recreational facilities.
  • Partner with other private and public interests to enhance economic development potential as deemed appropriate by Port Commissioners.

Governor’s Smart Communities Smart Partnerships Award – 2023

The Port, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington State Recreation & Conservation Office, Benton County and City of Kennewick won the 2023 award for their collaboration, creativity and excellence in implementing the comprehensive Clover Island restoration and revitalization plan.

Washington Public Ports Association’s Creative Partnership Award – 2023

The award recognizes the partnership between the Port, US Army Corps of Engineers, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Benton County and City of Kennewick to restore and revitalize Clover Island.

Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors’ HUB Build Northwest Award for Excellence in Construction – 2021

For the Vista Field Redevelopment Project.

For the Port’s significant contributions to Washington state’s creative and cultural vitality.

The Port and City of Kennewick were awarded for collaborating to create and adopt the Vista Field Redevelopment Master Plan.

For efforts to celebrate the significant contributions of the Latino community to the fabric of the Tri-Cities and to share the history and culture of underrepresented peoples through quality public art.

Washington Public Ports Association’s Creative Partnerships Award – 2018

For efforts to engage with City of Kennewick, Benton County, Hanford Area Economic Investment Funds Committee, and Columbia Basin College in redeveloping Columbia Drive in east Kennewick.

Governor’s Smart Communities Smart Partnerships Award – 2017

The Port, City of Kennewick, Benton County, and Columbia Basin College were collectively honored for their efforts to revitalize Columbia Drive by constructing the Columbia Gardens Urban Wine & Artisan Village.

Washington Public Ports Association Community Outreach Award – 2015

Honored with this first-ever award for extensive work to engage and involve the community in planning for redevelopment of the former Vista Field airport.
